The Ability To Shut Up: A superpower

Growing up, we were taught to speak up, to be assertive and always say how we feel, but for some reason the converse side to this lesson somehow came up missing- TO SHUT UP.
As a result our  parents have  succeeded in breeding an entire generation of people who know how to  talk and absolutely no idea how or when to keep quiet.
This rambling is largely inspired by the fact of my being a law student. In all honesty, I despise the company of other law students so much so that the thought of going to class fills me with dread.
Recently, I noticed that law students have this insatiable need to always say something no matter how irrelevant or stupid, to have expert opinion on all matters. If you put them in an anatomy lab they'd be telling the med students what to do(which would be utter nonsense of course).
But can I blame them really...they’re probably just  a product of an orientation which attaches a whole lot of importance to noise.
Now I'm not asking anybody to become mute  I’m just saying the   next time you want to speak… you should probably ask yourself  is this an actual coherent thought or is it as my friend will say a “brain fart”.

In Retrospect

When I posted this picture on instagram this time last year, it was simply because thought I liked it (though I never quite had a reason) and I thought my followers would too, plus you would agree with me that it is the norm to post something “hopeful and inspiring” to mark the new year.
In all honesty it never really meant much to me. 2014 was amazing my life pretty much sorted itself on all fronts. You see I think it is easy to be passive and even pessimistic when everything is just right.
I can only describe 2015 in one way- all my nightmares morphed into reality for a period spanning a year (an exaggeration, of course). I have successfully spent a greater part of the year doing one thing: looking forward to the end.
So yes after such a hellish experience I can say that this time I post this picture with a degree of genuine optimism and belief that what is coming is indeed better than what is gone.
Happy New Year.

Hello

A wise man once said “one should not live to eat but eat to live” we failed woefully. And after bouts of food induced inertia and months of procrastination, we have finally decided to do this. Recently, we made a decision to express our thoughts and opinions instead of letting them wander into a forest of memories or fade away after conversation.
In furtherance of this, we took to social media, but you see twitter would not let us express ourselves in more than 140 characters and facebook is well… somewhat obsolete. Hence, the blog.
I and Oyinda run the blog together she's a rather interesting person razor edged tongue, cruel sense of humour, fashionista, make up enthusiast, the list goes on she's one word; effervescent.
I'm quite the nerd lover of the more "serious" stuff, politics, economics, fringe science and some other things that do not remotely concern a law student; largely minimalist and  fluent in sarcasm. We’re clearly as different as night and day but we do share one thing in common our love of food and life itself.
We are not gossip mongers or fashion bloggers, neither are we motivational or self help writers. We simply want to tell our own version of the world. The gospel of food and everything else according to us.
So that’s it I hope you enjoy the journey.
